We welcome neighbors and community members to follow along as the new St. Louis Children’s and KVC Health Systems pediatric mental health hospital and outpatient treatment center take shape. From the beginning, we committed to building a thoughtfully designed, one-story facility that fits the scale and character of the surrounding community — and that is exactly what is being built.
Once complete, the new world-class children’s hospital and renovated outpatient treatment center will sit alongside other existing buildings on KVC Missouri’s Children’s Mental Wellness campus, providing a full continuum of care. Those include the KVC Academy Edgewood K-12 therapeutic school, the historic Rock House which is Webster Groves’ oldest building, and the Baumstark Community Impact Center, the hub of KVC Missouri’s community-based services.
The campus is intentionally inwardly facing, with interior courtyards and enclosed outdoor spaces located within the building footprint. Youth activities will take place within these structured, supervised areas, creating a calm environment while maintaining privacy for both patients and neighbors.

Tree changes have been made with the utmost caution and a commitment to maintaining Webster Groves’ beautiful tree-lined streets. During construction, tree removal occurred in alignment with the City’s approved tree preservation plan. At the same time, we increased overall green space on the campus and added new landscaping along N. Rock Hill Road and Gore Avenue. As those plantings mature, they will enhance the natural beauty of the area and provide additional privacy, preserving the welcoming character of the neighborhood while creating a peaceful, therapeutic setting for children and families.
This page will be updated with photos, milestones and behind-the-scenes updates as we move toward opening in late 2026.
Project Timeline
Spring 2025: Breaking Ground
We broke ground to build the new St. Louis Children’s and KVC Health Systems Youth Mental Health Care hospital and outpatient treatment center renovation in Spring 2025. This milestone represented the beginning of a shared commitment to expand access to compassionate, specialized care for children and teens.
Construction crews began preparing the site for the future hospital and outpatient treatment spaces.
Summer 2025: Building the Foundation
Throughout the summer, crews began preparing the site and laying the foundation for the new hospital and renovations for the outpatient center. This phase focused on essential infrastructure that will support the campus for years to come.
Construction teams worked throughout the summer to advance the project’s foundation and structural supports.
Fall 2025: The Structure Takes Shape
By fall, major structural work was underway as the framework for the new hospital began to take shape. This phase included the Topping Out milestone, when the final structural beam was placed at the highest point of the building. The event brought together project leaders, construction partners and guests including state and city legislators to celebrate the progress and recognize the many people helping bring this project to life.
Crews placed the final structural beam at the top of the new hospital during the Topping Out event.
Winter 2026: Moving Forward
As construction continues through the winter months, teams are working to advance the hospital’s structure and outpatient center renovations. Planning also continues behind the scenes to ensure programs, staff and services are ready to support families when the facility opens.
Interior construction begins as crews start shaping the hospital’s treatment and support spaces.
